Why This Matters

Wodify runs in your web browser, but how fast it feels depends on the computer underneath it. A slow processor, too little memory, or a nearly full hard drive can make every click take several seconds, even on a fast internet connection. Knowing what to look for before you buy a computer, and what to check on the one you already have, keeps your front desk moving and saves you from troubleshooting something that was never a Wodify problem to begin with.

Recommended Computer Specs

Use these as your shopping list for any computer that staff will use to run Wodify day to day.

Recommended (best experience)

  • Processor: Apple M1 or newer, Intel Core i5 or newer, AMD Ryzen 5 or newer, or equivalent
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Storage: Solid-state drive (SSD) with at least 20% free space
  • Browser: Latest version of Google Chrome (recommended), Safari, or Firefox
  • Internet: 150 Mbps download or faster on a stable connection

Minimum (works, but may feel sluggish with other apps open)

  • Processor: Intel Core i3, AMD Ryzen 3, or equivalent from the last five years
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Storage: Any drive with at least 15% free space. A traditional hard drive (HDD) works but expect slower startup, and pair it with 16 GB of RAM if you can.
  • Browser: Chrome 134 or higher, Safari 18.3 or higher, or Firefox 136 or higher

Not recommended

  • Low-power processors such as Intel Celeron, Pentium, or Atom, and AMD A-series or Athlon Silver chips. These are common in budget laptops and entry-level Chromebooks and are the single biggest cause of slow Wodify performance.
  • 4 GB of RAM or less
  • A traditional hard drive (HDD) combined with 8 GB of RAM or less. When memory runs out, the computer uses the drive as overflow, and a spinning drive handles that far more slowly than an SSD does.
  • Any drive that is more than 85% full, regardless of type
  • Computers more than six or seven years old

A note on Chromebooks: Wodify works on Chromebooks because they run Chrome, but most Chromebooks under a few hundred dollars ship with low-power processors and 4 GB of RAM. If you prefer a Chromebook, choose one with an Intel Core i3 or better and at least 8 GB of RAM.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Option 1: Check Your Specs on Windows

  1. Click the Start button and open Settings.
  2. Navigate to System > About.
  3. Under Device specifications, note the Processor and Installed RAM.
  4. Navigate to System > Storage to see how much free space is left on your main drive.
  5. Compare each value against the specs above.

Option 2: Check Your Specs on Mac

  1. Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner.
  2. Select About This Mac.
  3. Note the Chip (or Processor) and Memory.
  4. Select More Info > Storage to see how much free space is left.
  5. Compare each value against the specs above.

Speed Up Wodify on the Computer You Already Have

  1. Use the Back buttons inside Wodify rather than your browser's Back button. The browser button can reload the entire app from scratch, which is the slowest thing a computer can do in Wodify.
  2. Free up disk space until at least 15 to 20% of your drive is empty. Move photos and videos to cloud storage and empty your downloads folder and trash.
  3. In Chrome, navigate to Settings > Performance and turn on Memory Saver.
  4. On the same page, set Preload pages to No preloading.
  5. Navigate to Settings > System and turn off Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.
  6. Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and remove any extension you do not recognize or use.
  7. Close browser tabs and other apps you are not actively using, and fully reload Wodify every few hours during a long shift.
  8. Update Chrome to the latest version by navigating to Settings > About Chrome.

FAQs

  1. "My internet speed test is fast, so why is Wodify slow?"
Answer: Internet speed only controls how quickly data arrives. Once it does, your computer's processor and memory do the work of drawing every screen. If pages load slowly even on fast wifi, the processor, RAM, or free disk space is almost always the cause. Check your specs using the steps above.

  2. "Wodify was faster when I was on my old gym software. Why?"
Answer: Wodify loads as a single application the first time you open it, which lets you move between pages without a full reload afterward. That initial load asks more of your computer than a simple website does, so an older or low-power machine will notice the difference. Meeting the recommended specs and using Wodify's built-in navigation instead of the browser Back button makes the biggest difference.

  3. "Can I run Wodify on a tablet or phone instead of a computer?"
Answer: Yes, for most daily tasks. See Access Wodify Core on Mobile for details. For heavier admin work such as reporting, payroll, and membership setup, a computer that meets the recommended specs is the better fit.
